The Springbank distillery in Campbeltown has released Local Barley expressions before, though there hasn't been one quite a while - until now!
This 16 Year Old Local Barley is the first in a series of five expressions to be released over five years. They have used barley grown at Low Machrimore Farm in Southend, which is just a few miles outside of Campbeltown.
A real Must-Have, but very hard to find!
Springbank is one of the few remaining family owned distilleries. Nearly all of its whisky is sold as a single malt, with little of it finding its way into blends. Most blends are produced by larger conglomerates who tend to use the single malts from the distilleries that they own in their blends. Springbank is one of few distilleries in Scotland to perform every step in the whisky making process, from malting the barley to bottling the spirit.
